'Access denied' when trying to access user's profile data in WinXP -- even as admin logon

After the re-installation of WinXP on my system (because I cannot return on the system, crash and reboot during system boot), I cannot access my previously created user's profile data (C:Documents and Settings%userX%). I always receive "Access Denied" (also logged in as administrator). Any idea how I can recoup my data files in there? Thanks a lot in advance.

Log in as administrator, take ownership of the directory through the Properties dialog box. Then copy the files to a different directory and assign access rights to the other user(s) that you wish to grant access. If that fails, use a DOS boot disk if the hard drive is formatted with FAT or FAT32, or use an NTFS DOS boot disk if the hard drive is formatted with NTFS, then copy the material to a different location/drive.
