Can I authenticate Windows 2000 desktop machines to a Novell server?

I'm on a Novell network with Win98 machines. We have a lab where we want to upgrade the machines to Win2000, for the primary reason that this will require the users to log in. But I don't want to have to use a Win2000 server; I want to authenticate with Novell (NetWare 5.1). Can I do this without Novell Account Management? (I'd prefer not to buy anything.)

Novell has a client that you install on Windows 2000 to authenticate to Novell Servers. The MS Client for Netware Networks also works, but will not support all of the features of the NDS. It can be had for free...the Netware one I am not sure about. Here is a document that might come in handy.
