Can I install Exchange 2003 on a 64-bit machine and upgrade it to Exchange 2007?

Our server management expert explains why Windows administrators cannot install Exchange 2003 on a 64-bit machine and then upgrade to Exchange 2007.

Can I install Exchange 2003 on a 64-bit machine and upgrade it to Exchange 2007?
No. Exchange 2003 cannot be installed on a 64-bit machine, and Exchange 2007 cannot be installed on a 32-bit machine. You must install Exchange 2007 on new 64-bit hardware and perform a migration; there is no direct upgrade path.
