Q

Can I update my PDC to Windows 2000 Server with Active Directory and control Linux machines with it?

Will updating my Primary Domain Control to Windows 2000 Server still allow me to control Linux machines?

We are currently running Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000 Server and Linux servers. The PDC (primary domain controller) and BDC (backup domain controller) are running on Windows NT. Is it possible to update my PDC to Windows 2000 Server with Active Directory and control my Linux machines with AD?
That depends on what you mean by "control." The Active Directory doesn't have any particular hooks in it to offer control of Unix systems. However, a low-cost add-on called Microsoft SFU ( Services for Unix) will provide you with NFS, authentication methods, password synchronization and some native Unix kernel operations on Windows 2000. TechTarget also put on a webcast called Can Windows and Unix play nice? not too long ago.
