Q

Cannot install Windows Me or Win2k Pro

I can't install Windows Me or Win2k Pro on my computer and I'm thinking it's my motherboard. I can install Win98se. Every time I try to install Win2k, it gets to the hard drive detection process and says that my C drive is "unformatted or damaged." I can continue by formatting to NTFS but once Windows finishes copying the files over, the system freezes at restart, forcing me to low-level, reformat to FAT and reinstall Win98. I already changed hard drives and that didn't fix anything. The same problems reoccur. My system configuration is p3800eb/128 pc133sdram/voodoo3 3500/ibm gxp75 30gb/asus cusl2.
Changing the hard drive was a good first guess. In this case you should make sure that the equipment is on the Windows 2000 Hardware compatibility List http://www.microsoft.com/ntserver/hcl/hclintro.htm. You will also want to check to see if there are any BIOS updates for your system. This is probably the second leading cause of hardware problems.
