Clients are unable to access the local update server

My clients are unable to access the local update server (http://servername). We get the "under construction" message. We installed SUS properly on the server but were unable to download critical updates to the client workstation. And I don't want to use Group Policy. We follow the procedures in the "Deployment White Paper" but we still can't access the server. Any thoughts?

Make sure you review the proxy configurations on the clients. You may have domain policies or firewall configurations configured that keep the clients from connecting to your SUS server.
