Dial-up connection does not connect automatically

When I open Windows Explorer, my Internet dial-up connection opens. I click on Internet Explorer and the dial-up connection opens. Internet Explorer 5.5 opens next and then the dial-up connection opens again. This all started after I noticed that I could not get the dial-up connection to connect automatically.

The problems you are experiencing are the results of not being connected to the network. Explorer most likely has mapped drives that are on the remote network and IE wants to make the remote connection to find the Internet. Fixing the problem will depend on your configuration and what you are usually trying to connect to. If I had to guess, I would say that you are connecting to some type of corporate environment. For this reason, I would think that you would want to make sure that the box that says to use dial-up to log on is checked. This check box appears at the authentication screen (when you first log on to Windows 2000). Hope that helps - really solving your issue will mean solving the connectivity problem.
