Difference in bytes in what was backed up vs. what should be backed up

We back up the data on our main server every night. Five times in the last couple weeks, the number of files, directories and bytes that are supposed to be backed up don't agree to the actual number that were. One line in the back report says, "Error-tape doesn't contain archive media." The difference in bytes has been about 2.5 gigabytes. We are unable to tell what data was not backed up. Any assistance appreciated.

Contact your backup software vendor or possibly the device vendor. You may need to update drivers, update software, or re-configure the backup. If things don't match, there is a problem.
