Q

Do Windows 2000 and XP support automatic login?

I have some generic workstations in a school library that I want to automatically login using a set username and password (not known to the user) when the machine first boots. Is there a way of doing this with Windows 2000 Pro, Windows XP? If so how, and can the user logout and login with another username and password?
Both Windows 2000 and XP do support automatic login, although it's not recommended as being a potential security problem. That said, to enable automatic login for a given account in Windows 2000, follow the instructions here: http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000296.htm. For Windows XP, there's a few different ways to do it – see http://www.mvps.org/sramesh2k/Autologon.htm for more details on how this can be done.
