Q

Do you have to keeps WINS in order to use HP Jet Direct cards?

I have heard rumblings about the HP Jet Direct cards and Windows 2000. Do you have to keeps WINS in order to use Jet Direct? I have heard that if you don't have WINS, it will really mess up your printing.
The Jet Direct cards do not care about WINS or DNS. They only want an IP address. If the Print Server is a Windows 2000 machine and all of the clients are Windows 2000, or have the DS Client installed, then you should have no problems.

However, if you have Windows NT 4.0 workstations trying to locate AD or WIndows 2000 resources, you will want to keep WINS around, because the NT 4.0 machines will be using WINS as the first method for locating resources. Win2k uses DNS for this task.
