Q

Error messages while backing up zip files to tape on F drive

I'm running Windows Server 2003 and trying to backup some zip files to tape on my F: drive. Using the Local Admin which has full rights on this drive, I get the following error report using MS backup Backup.

Error: The device reported an error on a request to write data to media. Error reported: Invalid command. There

may be a hardware or media problem. Please check the system event log for relevant failures. The operation was ended. Backup completed on 11/24/2004 at 8:49 PM. Directories: 2 Files: 1 Bytes: 96,508,408 Time: 3 minutes and 38 seconds Error: F: is not a valid drive, or you do not have access. The operation did not successfully complete.

I've double-checked permissions and Local Admin has full rights. I'm able to access this drive, but it processes the entire backup and the popup error says that all the data has been transferred to tape. Help, I'm not sure what I'm missing.

This is a known issue with Windows Server 2003, and a hotfix is available. Check out KB Article 817688 at http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;817688 for details.
