AdAware is not, strictly speaking, a virus scanner -- it is a product for locating and eliminating spyware, which is not technically considered a virus. There is a better program for this, actually -- Spybot Search & Destroy, which is more comprehensive than AdAware and has more features in its free version. For viruses, Antirivus.com has a free on-the-Web checkup that comes in handy.
