Getting 'Cannot find scanutil.dll' error

At boot-up, I always receive a message: "Cannot find scanutil.dll," even after updating. Nevertheless, McAfee appears to run OK, although I have had some problems with a lock-up during booting when boot scan is enabled. Is this a registry problem?
It sounds like McAfee Antivirus has become corrupted and needs to be removed and reinstalled. Many people have complained about this particular problem, and the easiest solution is simply to set the product up again.
