Q

How can I reinstall an additional domain controller without uninstalling Active Directory?

I have both a DC and an ADC in Windows 2003 server. Now our additional domain controller is not functioning properly so we want to format and reinstall ADC. But we have forgotten our password for DCpromo and it is not allowing us to uninstall Active Directory. So shall we just format the ADC without uninstalling Active Directory?

If your additional domain controller cannot be DCpromo'ed down gracefully, you'll need to remove its metadata from the Active Directory database. However, you can simply reset your Directory Services Restore Mode password using ntdsutil.
