Q

How can I speed up directory listings for large directories?

How can I speed up directory listings for large directories? I've noticed that if I try to open the same directory in two separate Explorers (or from two command prompts), our NT server provides the list to the client much faster. The network is pure IP and I've tried all the fixes suggested on the Knowledge Base. Is it time to retire NT and move to our Linux server? Samba returns the same directories in a fraction of the time.
I know of no means to speed up directory listings significantly. If that is of a critical concern to you, then migrating to Linux may be your best option.
