Q

How do I restrict SMS sites to get only required OU computer names?

We are on Windows 2000 Active Directory environment and we have SMS 2.0. In AD the OU is location based, with the domain name XYZ. How do I restrict SMS sites to get only required OU computer names?

We are on Windows 2000 Active Directory environment and we have SMS 2.0. In AD the OU is location based, with the domain name XYZ. How do I restrict SMS sites to get only required OU computer names? Since I configured the "logon discovery" with XYZ domain, it's pulling all the locations (all OUs) computer info. I just wanted to get the computer info of a particular OU. Is this achievable on SMS 2.0?
SMS 2.0 is not completely AD "aware." SMS 2003 is the first version that takes the AD model into account. If you can't upgrade to SMS 2003 anytime soon, check out the Enhanced System Discovery tool for SMS 2.0 and SMS 2003 on myITforum: http://myitforum.techtarget.com/inc/upload/9919Enhanced%20System%20Discovery.zip.

The Enhanced System Discovery tool resolves most of the discovery gaps with SMS 2.0 and SMS 2003, and is rapidly evolving to cover the remaining gaps. It provides AD and NT 4 domain-based discovery.

NOTE: While this tool comes straight from Microsoft to be available to the myITforum.com community, it is not supported in any way. Feedback on the tool should be sent directly to me: rtrent@cinci.rr.com.
