Q

Increasing file shares in Win2k Pro

I have read that you can alter a registry key in Windows 2000 Pro to enable some of the functions of Win2k server. The one I would like is to enable me to increase the number of file shares from the maximum of 10 to an infinite number (30 would do). This is the only server feature I require, and to purchase the server is an expensive solution. Do you know how I can do this?
You've been misinformed. Windows 2000 Professional's 10-connection limit is hard-coded and cannot be changed by a registry setting. There is a setting that allows you to disconnect a file-sharing connection earlier than normal, which may allow more users to access the server than normal, but it is not intended as a way to work around the licensing restrictions in Windows 2000 Professional.
