Network printer problem with Win9x clients

We are facing a network printer problem in a Microsoft network with Win9x clients. When we are printing to a shared printer, it gives the error message below and the printer goes offline. We re-installed the driver and client -- we've tried everything we can think of with no success.

The error is: "There was an error writing to hostprinter for the printer PRINTERX. There was a problem printing due to an unknown system error. Restart Windows and begin printing again. The printer will be set to work offline. To save your print job in the local printer queue press OK."

This can occur due to a print driver mis-match or the printer driver becoming corrupted. You should also verify that the 9x clients have their DNS and WINS server settings correct, and that the DNS and WINS servers themselves are properly configured and the printer server's name record is properly defined. You may need to delete and recreate the printer on the printer server. Also check that there is sufficient drive space on the hard drive where the spooler files are stored.
