OE 5.5 is unable to send "Read Receipt"

We are using Outlook Express / Internet Explorer 5.5 with SP1. For some time I was able to respond to Read Receipt request in Outlook Express and sent an acknowledgement. Lately (after fooling around with MS Outlook) I am unable to respond when a Read Receipt is requested. An error message says: "Outlook Express was unable to send the receipt."
The most likely cause of this problem is that you've disabled the sending of read receipts within Outlook Express. Open Outlook Express and choose Options from the Tools menu. Select the Receipts tab. In the middle of the dialog you'll see three radio buttons relating to the default behavior for receipts. If 'Never Send a Read Receipt' is selected, we've found your problem. Select 'Always Send a Read Receipt' and you'll be good to go.
