Q

Problems with cleaning SMS client service off a PC

I have one computer where the client service will not start and the components will not install. This is the error I get when I try to start the client service "Could not start the SMS client service on Local Computer. The service did not return an error. This could be an internal Windows error or an internal service error. If the problem persists, contact your system administrator." I tried "cleaning" SMS off the PC and reinstalling the client, but no luck. The computer is running Windows 2000 SP3. I have no other PC with this issue.
There are issues with cleaning the client off the computer under certain circumstances. In specific situations the SMS and NAL keys are not deleted due to registry key ownership problems. After uninstalling the SMS client, you'll want to use regedt32 on these computers, takes ownership of the registry keys, and then delete the key completely, before re-installing the SMS client.
