Q

Rename multiple computers

I have a large number of PCs that have moved from another location. These PC machine names are incorrect. They are in an Active Directory Domain under the old name. Is there a method or utility to quickly rename these computer accounts, or must they all be removed, renamed and rejoined to AD?

One way to do this would be through a script, and Microsoft has some details on how to rename a computer programmatically using VBScript. It ought to be possible to generate multiple copies of this script that do the renaming automatically, or (if you know someone savvy enough with scripting) have it look up the old names and replace them with the new ones from a matching .CSV or text file.
