Q

Sudden problem with scheduled tasks

We have some Windows 2000 Pro systems with scheduled tasks set up (e.g., a backup batch file to run at 20:00). Recently, the backup stopped running. The scheduler message was "could not start." After entering the appropriate password in the properties of the item, all was OK again. How can I stop this happening again?
If you change the account's password, you're going to have to update the password in scheduled tasks. Scheduled tasks start tasks using the credentials you provided. If the password doesn't match, then it can't log on using that account, and so the task fails.
