I'm going for my MCSE and would like to get into writing security programs. What other class do you recommend I take?
With an MCSE in the offing, I can only assume you're interested in the Microsoft side of the networking/systems world. With that in mind, you might want to look into getting the MCSE with a security specialization (it requires an extra exam, but will help to establish your interest in security and get you going in that direction in the MS world). If by "writing security programs," you mean developing applications or writing code to enforce, provide or maintain information or network security, you should probably look at the new Microsoft developer certifications in their MCPD (Microsoft Certified Professional Developer) and MCTS (Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist) programs, as well as into their older MCAD and MCSD credentials (these are currently available, but likely to become passé in the next two or three years, though both have definite security components that aren't yet fully fleshed out for the newer programs). You should also think about pursing some kind of third-party security/programming credential. I'd recommend looking into the Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH) in that vein, though you do have numerous other choices that you might also want to consider.
Thanks for posting, and HTH. Good luck with your cert planning and preparation adventures.
