Why isn't login information being taken from the domain login?

I have an NT4 server that is acting as a domain controller. I also have a Windows 2000 machine that is a member of the domain (no domain controller). When the user logs into the domain and tries to access a share on the Win2k box, it prompts for a login rather than taking the credentials from the domain login. Why is it doing this? Why isn't it using the domain credentials? The share has permissions allowing authenticated users access.

Without more information I would guess that the Windows 2000 machine has lost its secure connection to the NT 4.0 domain. Remove the Win2k machine from the domain, delete the account in Server Manager on the NT 4.0 PDC, then have the Win2k server rejoin the domain.
