Microsoft Antimalware for Azure

Contributor(s): Toni Boger

Microsoft Antimalware for Azure is a security extension in Microsoft Azure that extends antimalware protection to virtual machines and to cloud services.

First announced during Microsoft's 2014 TechEd North America conference, Antimalware for Azure embeds into the Azure Portal to offer real-time monitoring. It has the ability to identify and remove a number of threats to an organization, including malicious software, spyware and viruses.

Microsoft Antimalware for Azure is configured and enabled when an organization uses Azure Portal to create a new VM. Organizations can also configure when to be alerted when Microsoft Antimalware for Azure detects suspicious activity; this may include when software that is malicious or unwanted attempts to install and run on a system without authorization.

Microsoft currently offers a free preview version of Antimalware for Azure.
