Microsoft Azure Operational Insights (AOI) is a cloud-hosted Software as a Service tool that allows IT operations staff to collect and search data from multiple machines for analysis.

Azure Operational Insights works by gathering agent and intelligence pack data and logs from on-premises servers and virtual machines that the IT operations staff wants to monitor. Once collected, the information exports back to AOI and is compiled and displayed in a single pane, intelligent dashboard that provides a detailed view of the services and servers being monitored. The process is similar to that of the System Center Operations Manager (SCOM).
Because AOI is an Azure-based service, it is a simple add-on to all organizations using Azure, System Center and Windows Server. AOI needs SCOM on-premises to monitor any services not in the cloud, and you must have System Center 2012 R2 installed to use AOI. However, Microsoft says it is possible to use AOI if you don't have SCOM installed by configuring individual machines that will send data with just an agent and without a SCOM management server.
As of this writing, AOI is currently in the preview stage.
