Windows Azure Pack

Windows Azure Pack is a free available download of grouped Windows Azure technologies for use in an enterprise's data center and applications. It runs on top of Microsoft System Center 2012 R2 and Windows Server 2012 R2.

The pack lets admins create new infrastructure offerings on-demand by working with the networking stack in Windows and Hyper-V to create new VMs from the policies they control. These are created and applied in a Windows Azure-inspired GUI located on an on-premises machine.

Microsoft says the Windows Azure Pack includes a number of capabilities that can be added in to an organization's data center. These include:

  • Management portals for administrators and tenants
  • Virtual machine, web site and service bus clouds
  • SQL and MySQL
  • Integrating and automating services into a service framework
  • Service management API
