We have a 200-node Windows 2000 network and about 10 XP machines. Should we disable NetBIOS on all workstations that are not file, print and application servers? How is this done in Windows 2000 Professional?

Windows 2000 and XP can use DNS for name resolution, so you can disable NetBIOS if you have tested all of your applications and processes and determined that they can function without it. You can disable NetBIOS through the Network Control Panel applet in either operating system.
