QUESTION POSED ON: 07 February 2005 One of my lab exercises called for file sharing between two computers. I found that the file sharing would not work when trying to share folders using Windows 2000 and Windows 98 SE. The sharing works with every thing else but not the Windows folder. Can you explain?

It's always a bad idea to share your Windows Directory, as it opens your critical system files and registry to attacks. That said, it is hard to say what the file sharing issues where without more information. I'm not sure what local policies where in effect on your Windows 2000 machine, if the directory was already shared as or in use, or if there were network issues. I would set up auditing on your PC and check the event logs for more information
