QUESTION POSED ON: 21 March 2005
Whenever my XP system starts/reboots, this error dialog box pops up: "Windows can't find D:WindowsSystem32svohost.exe.' Make sure you typed the name correctly and then try again. To search for a file, click the Start button and then click Search."

Why is this message showing up every time I start/reboot my PC? How can I remove it?

There are a number of common Trojans viruses that copy themselves as this file and write a registry entry to call on it during startup. Update your virus scanner and run it on your system as soon as possible, If you discover a Trojan, check your anti-virus vendors web page for any special instructions for removing it. In some cases, you need to temporarily disable the System Restore function within XP when removing these files.
