QUESTION POSED ON: 14 April 2005
Sometimes I can't access shares on our member server. I can ping the server both by name and IMP from other workstations and servers, but when trying to access shares or home directories I get the error message that is is inaccessible. I checked the server and it appeared to be up and running fine. I ended up rebooting the server and everything was fine again. I was wondering if this is a known problem or if there is anything you can do other than rebooting the server to recover?

There are a number of issues that may cause this, from a server time mismatch to a failed service. Check the event logs on your server to see if they list a specific service failure or error message.
