I am wondering if you can help me with a scenario where I would like to automatically execute a 'Batch File' on logout in Windows XP. On launch, I can easily put a shortcut into the startup folder, yet I don't think there's any such mechanism for logout situations (well it's not easy to find!). If possible, I would like to find a way of doing this without utilizing any third-party tools.

Yes, it is possible to set something (like a script) to run at shutdown by creating a Group Policy configuration for it, provided your computer hasn't been locked down from doing so bya n administrator. Select Start | Run and type gpedit.msc, then click OK; then look in Computer | Configuration | Windows Settings | Scripts (Startup/Shutdown). Double click Shutdown in the right-hand pane, then click Add to add one or more scripts as needed.
