QUESTION POSED ON: 15 November 2005
As a novice to scripting, I find it hard to believe that I have to learn a completely a programming language to set up tasks like defrag, remove temp files, rebooting the machine and adding printers. Are there "canned" scripts to initiate a defrag for a remote desktop in my domain without spending hours learning a scripting language to perform this task?

The WSH Bazaar has a whole slew of useful scripts that you can just run as-is. The MSN Windows Script group also has tons of useful things, and the Win32Scripting site lists a few good ones.

In the long run, though, you may be better off biting the bullet and learning the Windows Scripting Host language; the initial curve is a bit steep, but once you get the hang of it you can pretty much do anything.
