QUESTION POSED ON: 27 December 2005
We have a network of 12 PCs (XP Pro and W2k Pro) and we have a single server running 2003 SBS premium edition. I recently installed Service Pack 1 on the server and since then neither of our workstations can ping the server. However, the server can ping the workstations. This hasn't caused our network any obvious problems, but I need to install Service Pack 1 on a number of other servers that we look after -- but I am now nervous to do so. Any solutions?

This may be a DNS issue that some SBS'ers have reported after the SP1 install. Try the following command from a command prompt to turn off EDNS0 support and see if that helps: dnscmd /Config /EnableEDnsProbes 0

Then give it another try. You can take a look at the following KB article for more information: DNS query responses do not travel through a firewall in Windows Server: http://support.microsoft.com/?id=828263.
