QUESTION POSED ON: 21 April 2006 In our organization, all of our computers are logged onto a Windows 2000 Advanced Server domain. We also have an Exchange 5.5 server running NT where most of the users get their e-mail. Recently, some of the users have not been able to retrieve their mail from the Exchange server. They receive an error message that says the server is not available, but when we ping it, it replies. What could be the problem and how can we fix it?

In addition to pinging the Exchange Server, be sure that it is accessible via NetBIOS name resolution (typically managed by a WINS server on your network), as well as DNS name resolution.
