QUESTION POSED ON: 13 February 2007
I was recently hired to do desktop support and some server management for the police department. The previous IT person did not set up the profiles in Active Directory to load the default network printer to all users when they log into the workstations.

Now every time a new person logs in, I have to install the default network printer. How can I fix this?

If your print server is running Windows Server 2003 R2, you can use the new Print Management Console to deploy printers via Group Policy. If the print server is not running R2, you can deploy printer settings via login scripts using VBscript or another scripting language.

I recommend you check out the Microsoft Scripting Center to get started.
