QUESTION POSED ON: 10 September 2007
I have a Windows Server 2003 network with Exchange 2003. My current domain controllers have 32-bit processors. I recently bought two 64-bit servers which I'd like to change to. I've upgraded my old servers to Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard and installed the 64-bit version of Windows Server 2003 R2 on the two new machines. I want to run the two new 64-bit servers and one 32-bit server as my Active Directory server. Will this cause a problem?

32-bit and 64- bit domain controllers can co-exist without issues. However, you will need to re-run the Active Directory preparation tool adprep, using the version from the 64-bit media, before introducing your first 64-bit domain controller.
