CommVault Systems Inc. announced that it will offer support for Microsoft System Center Data Protection Manager (DPM) 2006 within the CommVault QiNetix data management software. The product will add application support for Microsoft Exchange, SQL Server, SharePoint and Active Directory data, protect the Microsoft DPM server itself and enable the recovery of Microsoft DPM collected files to any PC in the network, without the need to restore via the Microsoft DPM server.
According to comments at the recent Storage Decisions conference in New York by Steve Duplessie of the Enterprise Strategy Group, users should look for plenty of other companies to fill in gaps in DPM's capabilities as the product gains wider usage.
Iron Mountain adds capacity
Iron Mountain Inc. announced increased capacity of its Data Restoration and Electronic Discovery Support service. The increase was 500% year to date, according to Iron Mountain's press release. The company did not specify an exact amount of heightened capacity.
ILumin expands archiving product
ILumin Software Services Inc. announced an addition to its Assentor ILM product line -- Assentor File System Manager (AFSM), which expands Assentor's e-mail archiving capabilities to file systems, including Windows, Linux, Solaris, AIX and NetWare. AFSM offers file classification, storage resource management and data migration tools that classify files based on frequency of access, file types and location. Also included are comprehensive reporting tools that analyze and report on storage utilization.
Adaptec changes IBM RAID agreement
Adaptec Inc. announced it has renegotiated its relationship with IBM on the development and delivery of RAID controllers and connectivity products for IBM's eServer iSeries and pSeries systems. Under the terms of the new agreement, IBM will pay Adaptec to acquire a nonexclusive license to certain intellectual property and Adaptec will receive more royalties on the sale of its products.
Isilon customer win in aerospace
Isilon Systems Inc. announced that Pratt & Whitney, a manufacturer of aircraft engines, gas turbines and space propulsion systems, has selected its IQ clustered storage as the primary storage system for its gas turbine engine test facilities. The company's engine tests generate many terabytes of data each year and require high bandwidth for recording more than 100,000 samples per second.
Overland adds expansion array
Overland Storage Inc. announced the Overland REO 9000 expansion array, which adds RAID-5 capacity to the REO 9000 disk-based backup and recovery appliance in increments of 4 terabytes (TB) or 8 TB.
Zantaz upgrades EAS
ZANTAZ Inc. announced version 4.2 of its Enterprise Archive Solution (EAS) product. The product adds a new feature called EAS Discovery that allows a user to preprocess data into .PST packets before archiving. These .PST packets can then be extracted into a wide range of electronic discovery products, including Zantaz Introspect.
