Microsoft releases end of the year code

SearchWinIT.com Staff
Microsoft has eked out some code before the holidays with the release of Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2 release candidate (RC) 1 code, plus some new bits of code for Windows Longhorn Server.

Windows Server 2003 SP2 was due this fall, but Microsoft said in October that it would push the release to the first quarter of 2007. At the same time it announced that delay in October, it released Beta Refresh 2 for Windows Server 2003 SP2.

The release of Windows Server 2003 SP2 RC Refresh 1 includes any hot fixes, security updates and bug fixes released so far.

Microsoft also released new code for Longhorn Server to testers, known as the Community Technology Preview, that originally was to be released in November.

There may be one more Community Technology Preview for Longhorn Server before its Beta 3 release in early 2007. Microsoft has said it will release the final version of Longhorn in late 2007.
