Citrix Essential 5.5 will include support for all of Microsoft's latest virtualization enhancements made for Windows Server 2008 R2 with Hyper-V, System Center Virtual Machine Manager (SCVMM) and Windows 7.
Oliver Rist, Microsoft senior product manager for Windows Server Marketing, described the company's next-generation server OS as its most advanced virtualization offering to date. "Citrix has released a new version of its Citrix Essentials that's not only compatible with R2, it actually takes advantage of technologies only the latest Windows Server can provide," he said in a company blog post.
The Citrix Essentials product line is designed to extend management capabilities for Microsoft Hyper-V and the Citrix's own XenServer platform. In addition to Windows Server 2008 R2 integration, Citrix Essentials 5.5 also adds new features for disaster recovery and Windows 7 support.
Citrix Essentials 5.5 is currently in beta and available for download.
