The top Windows products of the year

Editors of

The editors of recently assessed the 2003 crop of enterprise Windows products, with an eye toward helping users choose those must-have tools to keep their desktops, servers and Exchange applications up and running. From our conversations with systems and network admins, we knew that innovation, while certainly the hallmark of great new products, isn't the only indicator of a great product.

Given tight budgets, small staffs and ever-increasing demands for bulletproof and reliable infrastructures, we decided to evaluate products using the following criteria:

  • Innovation
  • Performance
  • Ease of integration
  • Ease of use and manageability
  • Functionality
  • Value

And so we solicited nominations from vendors, members of our site and experts, scoured the market for products to nominate ourselves and recruited a panel of judges. That panel included independent industry experts, Windows professionals and editors. They reviewed more than 80 products in five major categories. The results are presented here.
