Whichever way you do it, the following tips should help you run remote scripts more effectively.
- You need to have administrative privileges on the remote computer you're running scripts on.
- Running scripts remotely may -- and likely will -- take longer than running them locally. You can reduce the amount of time required to execute a script by limiting the number of times that the remote connection needs to be made. This is key when running scripts using Windows Management Instrumentation.
- It's not practical to check computer names for accuracy in the course of the script. Either use Active Directory Service Interfaces (ADSI) to run a script against computers based on their domain/organizational unit membership, or check computer names carefully when entering them as arguments or when putting them in the text file.
