Microsoft released System Center Data Protection Manager 2006 SP1 today with backup for more types of files servers and support for 64-bit protection.
DPM SP1 also includes previously released hotfixes, an interface for configuring Microsoft Update selections, updated system requirements, support for clustered servers and protection for Single Instance Store (SIS)-enabled servers.
Future DPM 2006 hotfixes can only be installed on systems running Data Protection Manager SP1.
Microsoft last month released the second beta of Data Protection Manager version 2.0, which offers back-up capabilities beyond file protection for workloads including Exchange 2000 Server, Exchange Sever 2003, SQL Server 2000 and SQL Server 2005. The new version also supports SIS-enabled servers and support for 64-bit Windows servers.
Another public beta for DPM 2.0 is due out this spring and will include continuous data protection for system state, SharePoint Portal Server and bare metal recovery. Release to manufacturing is scheduled for the summer of 2007.
