 Laura E. Hunter is a technical author, trainer, speaker and a Windows Network Manager for a major northeastern University. She is a three-time recipient of the Microsoft MVP award in the area of Windows Server - Networking, and is the author of the Active Directory Field Guide from APress Publishing.

How long have you been an IT professional/worked in the IT industry?
Hunter: Nine years. I began as a Junior LAN admin/help desk rep for a medical supply firm in 1996. I then moved on to work as the Director of Computer Services for the divisional headquarters of a major non-profit organization. (Though it's a bit disingenuous to call me a "Director," really, since I had no staff. It was me and the computers, really.) After a few years there, I moved into higher ed, where I manage the back-end server infrastructure for the Student Financial Services office of the University of Pennsylvania.
I also write for Techtarget, Syngress Publishing, and a few other publishers and publications.
What is your proudest IT accomplishment?
Hunter: Being awarded the Microsoft MVP designation for Windows Server - Networking. The Microsoft Most Valuable Professional (MVP) Award is an annual award that is given to outstanding members of Microsoft's peer-to-peer communities, and is based on contributions made in those communities online and offline. Involvement in the MVP community has been greatly rewarding for me, and I've met some truly fascinating and brilliant members of the Microsoft and Microsoft peer-to-peer community.
What is it about your profession that you enjoy most?
Hunter: Troubleshooting IT issues. It's like I'm being paid to solve puzzles. I love doing that anyway, so it ends up being the most enjoyable part of my job.
If you could tell one thing about yourself that you would like our readers to know about you in your role as a site Expert, what would it be?
Hunter: I'd like our readers to know that no question is too hard or too easy. If you need help, let me know and I'll be on the case.
What is your favorite pastime?
Hunter: I love writing during my free time. I've worked on many titles for Syngress Publishing (including the MCSE 2003 exam guide series), and you'll see my contributions here on Techtarget and in the Microsoft product newsgroups as well. Look out for my Active Directory Consultant's Guide that's scheduled to be released by Apress sometime next year!
What are your hobbies?
Hunter: Running, exercising, watching American football and hockey, doing crossword puzzles and cryptograms.
