Use Windows 2000 Server as a router

You can use Windows 2000 professional server edition to connect to different TCP/IP networks. Suppose you have two servers, one in the range 192.168.0.1 and another in the range 172.16.0.3 and you need to connect to both the servers. To resolve this problem do the following:

1. Go to the local area connection TCP-IP properties and click on the Advanced tab.
2. Add an additional IP (for example 172.16.0.3) and an additional gateway as required to the exsisting IP configuration network (for example 192.168.0.1). 3. Ping both the IPs to check your settings. Now you can access both the networks on the same switch -- eliminating the need of a router.
