Putty is a Win32 Secure Shell Client that can be used to manage various networked devices. I needed to run Putty on a new laptop, but a new install of Putty unfortunately means a blank record of saved sessions.

If you have saved sessions you'd like to copy onto another computer:

  1. Open RegEdit
  2. Click on File and scroll down to Export
  3. Type in file: [HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareSimonTathamPuTTY]
  4. Move that .reg file to the other computer and import it into the Registry.

Your list of saved sessions and keys are now available on the new computer. You can also place Putty in the System32 folder (adjust perms for security) so it can easily be run by typing Putty.
