Multiple monitors for Windows 2000

Before beginning this process, check the HCL.txt file in the support folder on the Windows 2000 CD-ROM for a list of display adapters that may work with multiple monitors. Make sure that you have one of them installed on your server.

Now set up your primary video card with Windows 2000 and ensure it's functioning. Now you can proceed.

1. Hit the Start button. Go to Settings and select Control Panel menu.
2. Double-click on the Display icon.
3. Click on the Settings tab to see that appropriate display adapter is listed.
4. Check that the color depth is set to at least 256 colors.
5. Shut down the server.
6. Insert your secondary display adapter and confirm that it has VGA-disabled selected.
7. Insert your secondary display adapter into an available PCI slot and connect a second monitor to the secondary display adapter.
8. Turn on both the monitors and start the computer.
9. Windows 2000 detects your new display adapter and installs the appropriate driver for your display adapter and monitor if your monitor is Plug and Play.
10. Right-click on the desktop. Select Properties menu.
11. Click on the Settings tab. You'll see that two monitor icons are displayed.
12. Click the new monitor, and then click Extend my Windows desktop onto this monitor.

You'll now be able to see various applications on both the monitors and move around them as you wish.
