Fixing Word's erratic behavior in Windows

occasionally behaves erratically when running in Windows. Often this is because the normal.dot template file is corrupted. To troubleshoot:
  1. Search for the file normal.dot
  2. Save the file in a folder.
  3. Make sure all Word applications are closed.
  4. Delete the normal.dot file. (When Word is opened, it automatically creates a new normal.dot template file.)
  5. Check to see that it is functioning properly.
