If you've ever come across a user that has permanently deleted a file from his PC and that PC is not backed up, the file is usually lost. Now there is a freeware that will recover most types of files, whether it was on a FAT, FAT32, or NTFS partition. The freeware is called PC Inspector.

Here's what happend to me. A client lost the formatting of an external drive and also lost all of the information hosted on that drive. I attached the drive to a PC with plenty of free space and installed the free PC Inspector software. I had it scan for logical drives on the attached storage drive and found all of his files. I ran the recover portion of the program and it took several hours to run, but it recovered all 11GB of data. It also recovered the entire 8GB iTunes play list. I moved the drive back to the host PC, reformatted it, and copied all of the recovered data back to the drive. This was truly a useful tool and saved me time and money.
