Speed up your host-based backups

Auto-negotiate kills backup speed on 100 MB networks. Managed switches are a must for backups of large data. Set the client, switch and server NICs to 100/Full Duplex. This can usually be done in the NIC properties and has been known to increase backup speeds by 3x.
